Facing Climate Change, Embracing Climate Change - Turning Fear Into Positives

Embracing Climate Change

...or at least embracing the issue.

I've just been watching the trailer of the Al Gore, global climate change film, 'An Inconvenient Truth', and being conscious of the mindset of conscious creation, understanding, and the inner calm wisdom of acting from love over fear, was inspired to discover why I was so inspired and excited by watching the clip, and the television interview with Gore which preceeded it, and what opportunities and positives there were to be taken from it, potentially for all of us.

Papillon's 'brief', for want of a better word, and on a personal level, my, our, philosophy and approach to life, is to expand positives, as opposed to fearing negatives, (which can also fuel them). In any case, i've observed so many times how my acting from fear makes me feel weak and at odds with myself that I don't think I could respond out of fear now if I tried; I am all feared out, the knowing that it doesn't serve is now deeply embedded, and the triggered panic response just isn't there any more, thankfully.

So I started questioning myself, 'What opportunities are there that this presentation is touching and wishing to trigger? What positive potential might I/we be neglecting to a level that our greater Self wishes to be met?'

'If everything happens for a reason, why have I chosen this? Why is this happening?', or at least, why is this in the consciousness? How can I combine living with responsibility AND mastery of desire, with remaining true to my philosophy of living in the moment? How can I respond with responsibility, yet without fear?

What opportunities are there that this presentation is touching and wishing to trigger?

What positive potential might I/we be neglecting to a level that our greater Self wishes to be met?

If everything happens for a reason, why have I chosen this? Why is this happening? Why is this in the consciousness?

How can I combine living with responsibility AND mastery of desire, with remaining true to my philosophy of living in the moment?

How can I respond with responsibility, yet without fear?

I could add another one; 'How do I wish to live?' (in this case, with specific respect to this issue of global warming).

These were some of the answers that were forthcoming for me in terms of what areas of potential there were. Maybe they combine with some of your own?

> Our potential to be intelligent, and see the wisdom and intelligence of being integrated.
> Our potential for self-respect.
> Our potential for connection.
> Our potential for inner peace.
> Our potential for unity and teamwork.
> Our potential to be comfortable with ourselves that we do what is the most important thing for ourselves, rather than remain with the nagging doubt that we should be doing something more, something wiser and more complete.

...and many more.

It was when I heard the words 'we have to work together' that I really got turned on to the pleasure of joining with you all in this challenge.

If you think of the quote below by Upton Sinclair, and what is required to overcome the concern, it becomes very clear how the mutual support which we can give to others, and receive from others becomes key. The capacity for understanding and empathy becomes a very valuable resource indeed.

"It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it." - Upton Sinclair

An Opportunity for Personal Transformation

So many people search to find purpose and meaning in their lives, and yet deep down have the desire to be a hero, even if in some small way, which has nothing to do with cowboys and indians, knights in shining armour. It just means standing up for something to believe in and consequently feeling good about it.

This is one simple area in which anyone can make a difference and gain that feeling. There's nothing saintly about it. It's simply a matter of tidying up after oneself; an embracement of self-respect. These small actions reinforce our self-worth, self-belief and integrity.

Most grabbing of all for me were Gore's words at the end of the trailer; 'What's at stake is our ability to live'. Having listened to our own Message of Human Potential many dozens of times, I can remember quite clearly, David continuing his definition of human potential, "...it's our ability to live..."

So I started considering the oddness (to me) of the title, 'An Inconvenient Truth', and considering 'is it not a bit upside-down and bizarre that a truth might be incovenient?'. So I set about hearing for a quote to come up to define this consideration, and came up with a few variations, mostly centered around the following;

"For the honest, strong, self-assured and self-referral man, no truth is inconvenient. More to the point, any truth is a gift he/she can make use of."

Of course, I understand that many people may quite rightly consider that being 'honest, strong...' etc., and of complete inner strength isn't neccessarily something that comes easily to everyone on the planet, or that everyone has in abundance and without exception at this stage of our evolutionary development.

So, at least, for this potential, I am pleased that we can offer many resources and supports for developing one's inner strength, both our own, and those of others, and it's why we've compiled our largest list of related pages and related links of any page of this website to date, along with an additional group of links for resources to develop inner strength. I'm in there with you on this one. There's no limit to the potential for inner strength which we can develop.

James Blacker, 3rd June 2006.

of an equal or equivalent opportunity."
