Relationships
As pointed out by Colin Turner, our relationships are our greatest source of joy.
We can take an enlightened approach to relationships, to start with a focus on some main principles, such as
> starting with our relationships with ourselves,
> wanting for the other person what they want for themselves,
> focussing on love, and not neediness,
> love has no conditions, and knowing and understanding what love actually is,
> and allowing each relationship to be defined only by its own self.
There is an immense opportunity for greater connection, and greater and more relationships in our barrier-ridden world, and these will happen as and when we are ready, because the barriers do have their purpose, to keep us safe emotionally and psychologically, however detrimental they may be as a by-product.
There is also greater room for more understanding and allowance of the differences and subtleties of relationships.
The Eskimo's have over forty words for snow, but we currently have only about four, five, or maybe six different words or terms to define our relationships, which have a million different natures and purposes, and insist that they are shoe-horned into one of them. Little wonder, then, that we get into such bother and heartache with our relationships which we have, and such unhappiness and sense of lack or denial with the ones that we don't.
There are walls and barriers we have put up to protect ourselves, of course. And, of course, also, we all know that these keep the love and connection out as well as the emotional pains we fear.
All of our homes have walls, fences, and other barriers to keep the outside world out, as do our fields and our lands, and these reflect the sense of separation that we experience with our relationships with others at this stage of our evolutionary development. And nothing wrong with that.
With each act or thought of love and self-reliance and defencelessness, these will begin to come down.
If we go too fast we scare ourselves and so can't enjoy it fully. If we go too slow we kill the passion of it and never fulfill our needs. So why not take it at the speed which is right for you.
