Spiritual Potential

How deeply can we embrace our own Spirituality? That is the question in terms of embracing our spiritual potential and the pursuit of happiness.

As always, it is about which direction we are going in, rather than what 'level' we are at. If we are going in the direction that we want, and at the right rate of growth, of living, not too fast or too slow, and if we are true to ourselves, then we may experience spiritual fulfillment.

Someone at a 'higher' level of spiritual development, but not growing, or even trying too hard, perhaps may not do so.

To give you a metaphor for this, a child running at five miles an hour may be running happily, whereas an athlete with a top speed of twenty-nine miles an hour trying to run at a hundred miles an hour may do himself an injury.

"Life is a journey, not a destination."

Too often people try to be 'too' spiritual before they are ready. Paradoxically, this is actually the opposite of beng spiritual, when we try too hard to be, and too fast. Giving to others can be good, but this must be balanced with giving to oneself.

There is a common good in right action. What serves you serves others, and vice versa.

Conversely, of course, when we are disconnected and at conflict with ourselves and others, finding spiritual, or indeed any kind of fulfillment, may be unlikely.

Such concepts as the Sri Sri Ravi Shankar transcript about it being hard to be materialistic, and the messages of Authentic Self, and enjoying passion of purpose and meaning are integral elements of the equation of spiritual growth and fulfillment.
